Why do Spanish question words have accents?
Accents mark interrogative and exclamative uses, including indirect questions: no sé dónde está. A relative use has no accent: la casa donde vivo.
What is the difference between qué and cuál?
Use qué before a noun (¿qué libro?) and to ask what something is (¿qué es esto?). Use cuál before es to pick one or ask for a detail: ¿cuál es tu número?
What is the difference between por qué and porque?
Por qué, two words with an accent, asks why. Porque, one word, means because: ¿Por qué estudias? Porque me gusta.
How do you say how much and how many in Spanish?
Cuánto and cuántos. They match the noun: ¿cuánto dinero?, ¿cuánta agua?, ¿cuántos libros?, ¿cuántas personas?
What is the difference between dónde and adónde?
Dónde asks where something is: ¿dónde estás? Adónde, also written a dónde, asks where to with verbs of motion: ¿adónde vas?
How do you say whose in Spanish?
De quién: ¿de quién es este libro?, whose book is this?
Why does Spanish use an upside-down question mark?
¿ opens the question, so you know from the start to read it as one: ¿Dónde está? Exclamations work the same way with ¡ and !.
