Never translate phrases literally
Sin embargo has nothing to do with embargoes. Treat each phrase as a single vocabulary item with one meaning: "however".
Native speakers do not build every sentence word by word — a huge share of spoken Spanish is fixed phrases and expressions used as ready-made chunks. The 100 phrases below are the most frequent multi-word expressions in our 10,000-item corpus.
Expressions like sin embargo (however), lo siento (I'm sorry), and por ejemplo (for example) cannot be translated word-for-word, which is exactly why they need their own list. Learn the chunk, not the pieces.
Every phrase includes a real example sentence. In Lingular, phrases appear as battle questions just like single words, so these expressions become automatic through the same game loop.

Sin embargo has nothing to do with embargoes. Treat each phrase as a single vocabulary item with one meaning: "however".
Discourse phrases — por ejemplo (for example), sin embargo (however), de repente (suddenly) — make your Spanish sound organized and native even when your grammar is simple.
Fixed expressions carry their own rhythm. Saying lo siento or buenas noches aloud a few times makes them available in real conversation, not just on paper.
Reading a word list once won't make it stick. In Lingular, every word on this page becomes a battle question: correct answers deal damage and earn XP, misses come back until you master them, and a leaderboard gives you a reason to practice daily. Free, in your browser, no download.
